Juvelook vs Rejuran: How a Korean Dermatologist Chooses

Juvelook vs Rejuran: a Gangnam dermatologist of 21 years explains how the two boosters differ, who each suits, how long results last and how to combine them.

The heavyweight of anti-aging collagen: everything about Juvelook (effects, real treatment experience, Rejuran comparison and more)

I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified Korean dermatologist with 21 years of practice and the medical director of VOS Dermatology Clinic in Gangnam, Seoul, in front of Dosan Park. At VOS I see every patient myself, from the consultation to the last injection.

Juvelook vs Rejuran is one of the comparisons I hear most from visitors who have read about Korean skin boosters and want to pick one before they fly. I recorded this Q&A on my way to lecture at the Juvelook launch symposium in Taiwan, answering the questions my patients and viewers ask most. This page is based on my YouTube video from October 2024; it summarizes what I explained there for readers abroad, with the clinic details matched to what VOS offers today. The video above can be watched with translated captions.

The short answer

  • Rejuran (polynucleotide from salmon DNA) is my choice when sensitive, inflamed or troubled skin needs to calm and recover quickly; Juvelook (PDLLA with hyaluronic acid) is my choice for slower, longer-lasting collagen building.
  • For sensitive skin with an anti-aging goal, I often start with Rejuran and then move to Juvelook so the improvement is carried further over time.
  • Juvelook is spread evenly across an area rather than packed into one fold; putting a large amount in one spot raises the risk of nodules.
  • At VOS, three Juvelook sessions typically hold results for 6 to 12 months, and Rejuran's standard is three sessions a month apart; both vary by person.

What Juvelook is, and why it is not the same as collagen

Short answer: Juvelook is a collagen biostimulator, a skin booster that makes your own skin produce collagen, and it does not contain collagen itself (in the video at 00:56).

The line between "skin booster" and "collagen booster" is blurry. Skin booster is the umbrella term for injectables that improve skin quality; a collagen biostimulator is the type that directly prompts collagen production. Juvelook fits both. Its PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid) particles break down slowly in the skin, and the breakdown products signal the skin to make collagen, mainly types 1 and 3, which matter most for elasticity. That is different from Retizen, also called Laetigen, which delivers type 1 collagen directly (in the video at 02:05).

In most cases I use one full vial, because the principle is to spread it evenly across the area rather than chase one spot (in the video at 02:36). If one area needs more support, I treat the whole surrounding area and give that spot a little more.

Juvelook vs Rejuran: which one I recommend, and when

Short answer: I recommend both, for different jobs. Rejuran is for calming and repairing sensitive or troubled skin quickly; Juvelook is for building collagen slowly and holding the result longer (in the video at 13:30).

Rejuran uses polynucleotide (PN) derived from salmon DNA, which supports cell renewal. When skin is sensitive, inflamed or struggling, Rejuran helps it settle quickly. Juvelook does not act on the day; collagen takes time to form. So if your skin is reactive but your goal is anti-aging, I often start with Rejuran to stabilise the skin and then move to Juvelook to carry the improvement further.

The timing also differs. Rejuran's effect per session is shorter, and the standard at VOS is three sessions a month apart, with results typically lasting over six months. Juvelook is also given as a short series, usually two or three sessions, but its purpose is a slower, longer-lasting change. In short, the Juvelook vs Rejuran choice comes down to whether you want to fix sensitivity now or manage aging over a longer horizon, and many plans use both. My guides to Juvelook in Korea and Rejuran in Korea go into each treatment separately.

For reference, the VOS price list shows JUVELOOK Skin at 1,000,000 KRW per vial and Rejuran Healer at 400,000 KRW per 2 mL, in Korean won before 10% VAT; check the pricing page for current figures.

Under-eye hollows, fine lines, neck lines and acne scars

Short answer: Juvelook helps mild hollows, fine lines and scars when it is spread evenly, but deep hollows or heavy sagging usually need another method alongside it (in the video at 05:29).

Under the eyes, the skin is thin and the space beneath is often empty because fat has decreased. Juvelook Volume can cover mild hollowing. When the hollow is deep, it would take too many sessions or too much product in one place, and repeated heavy dosing raises the risk of nodules, so I consider other methods with it. For fine horizontal lines under the eyes, I use very superficial techniques, by hand or with a needle-free injector such as Mirajet, repeated over several sessions rather than expecting one session to fix it (in the video at 06:42). Neck lines can be treated with Juvelook or Juvelook Volume depending on depth (in the video at 07:37).

Marionette lines and deeper folds come from loosened, weakened support tissue, so a severe fold usually needs filler or another treatment as well (in the video at 08:43). For acne scars, I use Juvelook Volume or Juvelook to improve the scarred tissue from within so that laser treatment afterwards has a better base to regenerate from (in the video at 09:36). If you had filler a year ago, Juvelook Volume can still be done, because it sits more superficially than filler usually does.

Sculptra or Juvelook Volume, and pairing with lifting devices

Short answer: for faster, stronger volume I lean toward Sculptra; for a more natural, overall improvement I lean toward Juvelook Volume (in the video at 12:08).

Sculptra is PLLA (the L type); Juvelook is PDLLA (the DL type), with softer particles that break down more easily and provoke a milder tissue reaction, which is why its nodule risk is considered low. I often use Sculptra for deep hollows at the side of the cheek and Juvelook Volume for the front of the face.

With lifting devices such as Ultherapy or Thermage, I usually perform the device first and inject afterwards on the same day, so the injected material does not change how the ultrasound reaches its target layer (in the video at 15:15). On separate days, the two can be planned independently.

How long Juvelook results last, and who should wait

Short answer: in the video I estimate one Juvelook or Juvelook Volume session at about six to nine months, and a course of two or three sessions at about a year to a year and a half (in the video at 17:40). VOS's published guide is 6 to 12 months after three sessions. Either way, it varies by person.

Juvelook can be repeated a month apart. For Juvelook Volume, which spreads a larger amount, I used to suggest three sessions a month apart; now I usually leave about a month and a half, so I can see how the skin responds before adding more. For deep dryness, Juvelook strengthens the skin gradually, so if you need quick relief, Rejuran HB or a hyaluronic acid booster acts faster (in the video at 18:32). With rosacea, Juvelook improves the skin environment so that other redness treatments work better, but I do not promise that it clears redness on its own (in the video at 19:51). During active dermatitis, I treat the inflammation first (in the video at 21:05), and during breastfeeding I suggest waiting (in the video at 21:48). Most of my Juvelook patients are in their 30s and 40s; from the 60s, volume loss and sagging often need other corrections as well (in the video at 22:12).

If you are planning around a short trip, my guide to the Juvelook recovery program and trip days helps with timing, and our creator experiences at VOS show how other visitors planned their treatments. Before booking, send us on WhatsApp a daylight photo without make-up, your travel dates and any injectables from the past two years.

Results, timing and recovery vary from person to person, and the right plan for you is decided at an in-person consultation.

Q&A

Q&A — what viewers ask Dr. Kim

Juvelook vs Rejuran: which is better for anti-aging?
Neither wins for everyone. Rejuran works faster on calming and repairing sensitive or irritated skin, while Juvelook builds collagen slowly and holds longer. If your skin is reactive and you also want anti-aging, I often start with Rejuran and continue with Juvelook.
Can I combine Juvelook and Rejuran in one plan, or do I have to choose?
You can combine them. In the video I describe using Rejuran first to settle sensitive skin, then Juvelook to extend the result. The order and spacing depend on your skin and travel dates, and I decide them at consultation.
Is Juvelook the same as collagen?
No. Juvelook's PDLLA does not contain collagen; as it breaks down, it prompts your skin to make its own. Retizen (also called Laetigen) is different because it delivers type 1 collagen directly, and I sometimes alternate the two.
How soon will I see Juvelook results compared with Rejuran?
Rejuran tends to show its calming and hydrating effect sooner. With Juvelook, collagen keeps building for roughly two to three months after a session in my experience, so it rewards patience. How fast each person responds varies.
Can I have Juvelook while breastfeeding or during a dermatitis flare?
I prefer to wait until breastfeeding has finished, even though little is expected to reach the rest of the body. With active dermatitis, I first calm the inflammation with medication or topical treatment and then plan Juvelook.

Results, swelling and recovery vary from person to person. This page is general information from VOS Dermatology Clinic based on Dr. Kim's video and does not replace an in-person consultation.
