Ultherapy Prime for a Double Chin in Korea: A Real Case
Ultherapy Prime for a double chin in Korea, explained by the dermatologist who did it: what it lifts, when fat needs another tool, recovery and VOS prices.
- Ultherapy Prime
I’m Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with 21 years in practice and the founder of VOS Dermatology in Gangnam. At VOS I see every patient myself, from the first consultation to the treatment, and I don’t hand anyone over to another doctor. When a patient agrees to share their visit on video, I like to explain what we did and why, in my own words. This is Krisha’s case.
The short answer first: Ultherapy Prime can tighten and lift the tissue under the chin and along the jawline without surgery, which often makes a soft profile look sharper. It works by building collagen in the SMAS and deep dermis, so the result develops over two to three months. It does not dissolve fat. This case is for anyone who wants a firmer chin and jawline from a single visit to Seoul and wants to know honestly what Ultherapy can and cannot do there.

Dr. Kim’s quick take
- Ultherapy Prime sends focused ultrasound to the SMAS and deep dermis, the layers that hold up the jawline and the skin under the chin. It tightens and lifts; it does not dissolve fat.
- There is no downtime in the usual sense. Mild redness for one to two days and some tenderness along the jawline are the common after-effects.
- Collagen builds over two to three months, so the honest time to judge the result is about three months after the session.
- Session time
- Under 1 hour
- Downtime
- None, mild redness 1–2 days
- Results build
- Over 2–3 months
- Designed to last
- Up to 1 year
“I was curious to see how my skin would look afterward!”
Why Krisha flew to Seoul
Krisha’s reel opens with the words “getting rid of my double chin,” and says she flew to Korea to address it. In her caption she describes Ultherapy Prime as a non-surgical treatment focused on tightening and lifting, and says she was curious to see how her skin would look afterward.
I don’t share a patient’s medical details here. What I can share is how I think about this request, because it is one of the most common ones I hear from international patients. “Double chin” is a single phrase for two different problems, and the first job in the consultation is to work out which one is in front of me.
Loose tissue or fat: the question I ask first
Fullness under the chin usually comes from one of two things, or a mix of both. The first is laxity: skin and the supporting layer underneath have loosened, so the area drops and the jawline blurs. The second is a pocket of fat that sits under the chin even at a healthy weight.
Ultherapy treats the first. It tightens and lifts. If the fullness is mostly fat, a fat dissolving injection is the more direct tool, and I explain the products I use for that in my fat dissolving injections Korea guide. Some people need both, and you can see a fat-focused plan in Manel’s case with Nuviju. I check with my fingers and a careful look at your profile, at rest and with your head tilted, before recommending either.
What Ultherapy Prime does under the chin
Ultherapy Prime sends focused ultrasound energy to the SMAS and deep dermis, the layers a surgeon would tighten. At a set depth, the energy creates small heating points while leaving the surrounding tissue intact, which is why there is no wound to heal. Your body responds by laying down new collagen over the following months.
The transducers work at three depths. The 4.5mm depth reaches the fascial layer that carries most of the lift. The 3.0mm depth sits in the deep dermis and supports firmness. The 1.5mm depth handles fine surface laxity. Under the chin and along the jaw, tissue thickness varies from point to point, so I adjust depth to the area rather than firing the same setting everywhere. I go into this in more detail in my Ultherapy Prime Korea article.
Worth knowing: The shot count on a price list is not the whole story. Where the energy lands matters more. At VOS I place shots at 1mm intervals, and your treatment record shows which depths and how many shots were used, so a future session can build on it.
What the session feels like
A typical face session takes under one hour, plus consultation and mapping time before it starts. You feel heat and a prickling sensation as each line of shots is delivered, and it is usually strongest over bone, such as the jawline. We use a three-step pain management approach, and nitrous oxide sedation is available for people who are anxious about discomfort.
Recovery on a travel schedule
This is where Ultherapy suits visitors. There is no downtime in the usual sense. Mild redness for one to two days is possible, and some people feel tenderness when pressing on the jawline for several days. No special aftercare is required, and most people go straight back to their plans.
Rarer effects exist, and I would rather you know them than read about them later. I list what is normal, what is uncommon and when to message us in my Ultherapy side effects guide.
When results show, and how long they last
Some people notice a slight change early, but the meaningful result comes from new collagen, which builds over two to three months. That is why the honest time to judge the outcome is about three months after treatment, usually long after you have flown home. A single session is designed to last up to a year, and timing varies from person to person.
How I would plan this for you
Every plan starts with an in-person consultation with me. Here is what I check:
- Laxity or fat. Ultherapy for loose tissue, a fat dissolving injection for a fat pocket, or a combination.
- The areas. Chin and jawline only, or the lower face and neck as well, which changes the number of shots.
- Your timeline. Ultherapy needs no recovery time, so it can sit almost anywhere in your trip.
Our prices are listed below and on our price list. They are the same for every nationality, and the exact number of shots for you is set at consultation. I explain how shot counts translate into cost in my Ultherapy price Korea article, and the treatment details are on our Ultherapy Prime page.
Before you message us
Send us clear photos of your face in daylight, including a side profile and one with your chin slightly lowered, plus your arrival and departure dates on WhatsApp. We reply in English, and I review the plan with the team before you book. Results vary from person to person, so treat this case as a starting point for your own consultation, not a promise.

Who I recommend this combination for
- The area under your chin and along the jawline looks softer or looser than it used to, even at a stable weight
- You want a lift and tighter contour without surgery or visible downtime
- You can wait two to three months for collagen to build before judging the result
- You are travelling and need to go straight back to sightseeing after the session
Not the right first step if: the fullness under your chin is mainly a pocket of fat, you are pregnant, or you have an active skin infection in the area. Fat needs a fat-reducing treatment, and I will tell you at consultation which one your profile actually needs.
