Thulium Laser, CO₂ Spot Removal and Nuviju in Seoul: A Real Case
Thulium laser in Korea for tone and texture, CO₂ spot removal and Nuviju for the jawline, explained by the dermatologist who treated her, with VOS prices.
- Thulium Laser
- CO₂ Spot Laser
- Nuviju
I’m Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with 21 years in practice and the founder of VOS Dermatology in Gangnam. I see every patient myself at VOS, from the first consultation to the treatment, and I don’t pass anyone to another doctor. When patients agree to share their visit on video, I write down what we did and why, as I would explain it in the consultation room. This is Manel’s case.
The short answer first: Manel’s plan combined three treatments that each do one specific job. A full-face thulium laser (Fraxel Dual 1927) renews the surface for tone and texture, a CO₂ spot laser removes individual pigmented spots, and Nuviju, a fat dissolving injection, refines a small pocket of fat under the chin and along the jawline. This case is for anyone who wants to fix skin and contour in one trip to Seoul and wants to know what that realistically involves.

Dr. Kim’s quick take
- One visit, three jobs. A full-face thulium laser (Fraxel Dual 1927) evens tone and texture, a CO₂ spot laser removes individual spots, and Nuviju refines fat under the chin and along the jaw.
- Laser recovery is visible for several days, so plan it at the start of a trip, and use sunscreen every day afterwards to keep the pigment from coming back.
- Nuviju clears fat gradually over the following weeks, and most people need more than one session.
- In one visit
- 3 treatments
- Thulium recovery
- Red, rough skin for several days
- CO₂ spots heal
- Usually 1–2 weeks
- Nuviju swelling
- Usually 1–2 days
“I’m honestly so happy with how my skin looks now.”
“I stopped posting because I didn’t like my skin”
That is how Manel opened her reel, and it is honest in a way I appreciate. She listed exactly what she had done at VOS, which makes my job here easier: numbing cream and pre-treatment care, a full-face thulium laser, a CO₂ laser for targeted pigmented spots, two vials of Nuviju for the double chin and jawline, and regenerative care afterwards.
I don’t share a patient’s private medical details here. What I can share is the reasoning behind a plan like this, because the logic is the same for anyone who sits in front of me with these concerns.
Thulium laser: renewing the surface for tone and texture
The thulium laser at VOS is the Fraxel Dual 1927. It is a fractional laser, which means it treats thousands of microscopic columns of skin while leaving the skin between them untouched. That untouched skin is what lets the surface heal quickly. At the 1927 nm wavelength, the laser works close to the surface, where uneven pigment, sun damage and fine roughness live.
It is the fractional laser I use most often for pigmentation and uneven tone. I compare it with the other laser types we use, and explain where each one fits, in my Korean laser treatment guide.
The trade-off is a few days of visible recovery. For several days the skin looks red and feels rough, like fine sandpaper, as the treated layer flakes away. That is why I always ask for your travel dates before planning it.
CO₂ spot laser: removing what should go, not fading it
A full-face laser improves overall tone, but some spots are better removed one by one. The CO₂ spot laser is a precision laser for benign pigmented and superficial lesions, such as some moles, seborrheic keratoses, milia and skin tags. It vaporises the spot in a controlled way and leaves a small, shallow wound that heals from its edges, usually over one to two weeks.
Before I treat any spot, I look at it closely. A mole that has changed recently needs a medical check, not a laser, and I will say that plainly. You can read how I assess spots, and what healing looks like on a travel schedule, in my mole removal Korea article.
Worth knowing: Pigment treatments only hold if you protect them. After a thulium laser or CO₂ spots, daily sunscreen is not optional. Unprotected sun in the weeks after treatment is the most common reason pigment comes back.
Nuviju: refining the chin and jawline without surgery
The third part of Manel’s plan had nothing to do with the skin surface. Nuviju is a fat dissolving injection listed with cholic acid as its active ingredient. It is the product I prefer for localized facial fat, and I commonly use it to refine the jawline, improve jowls and reduce fullness under the chin while keeping the face natural.
The injection breaks down fat cells in a small, defined area, and the body clears them gradually over the following weeks. It suits a stubborn pocket of fat, not weight loss, and most people need more than one session. Swelling, bruising or redness for one to two days is common. I compare Nuviju with the other injectable option we use in my fat dissolving injections Korea guide, and the treatment details are on our V-Line Slim Injection page.
Why one plan instead of three separate visits
Many international patients have one trip and several concerns. The useful question is not “what is the strongest treatment?” but “what can be done safely in this window, and in what order?” Laser work and fat dissolving injections treat different layers and different areas, so they can often be planned in the same trip. The order, the spacing and the aftercare are what make that work.
Numbing cream before the laser and calming, regenerative care after it are part of the same plan. They make the session more comfortable and help the skin settle. Manel’s summary in her video was simple: she is happy with how her skin looks now. That is what I hope for with every plan, and it is also why I set realistic expectations before we start.
How I would plan this for you
Every plan starts with a consultation, in person, with me. Here is what I check:
- Your pigment type. Sun spots, melasma and post-acne marks look similar in photos but behave differently. Melasma, for example, needs a gentler approach, which I explain in my hyperpigmentation treatment article.
- Your spots, one by one. Which ones suit CO₂ removal, which are better treated with the full-face laser, and which need a medical check first.
- Your profile. Whether the fullness under the chin is fat that Nuviju can treat, or skin laxity that needs lifting instead.
- Your dates. Laser recovery and spot healing need room. Book these early in your stay.
Our listed prices are below and on our price list. They are the same for every nationality, and the exact plan for you is set at consultation. For a gentler first visit built around injections, see Suhandi’s skin botox and Rejuran HB case. If spots are your main concern, my dark spot treatment guide goes deeper.
Before you message us
Send us clear photos of your face in daylight without makeup, including a side profile if your jawline is a concern, plus your arrival and departure dates on WhatsApp. We reply in English, and I review the plan with the team before you book. Results and recovery vary from person to person, so treat this case as a starting point for your own consultation, not a promise.

Who I recommend this combination for
- Your tone looks uneven or dull, with sun spots or scattered pigmentation across the face
- You have a few distinct spots or small benign lesions you want removed, not just faded
- A soft pocket of fat under the chin or along the jaw blurs your profile, even at a healthy weight
- You have about a week in Seoul and want to address skin and contour in one visit
Not the right first step if: you have an active tan or a sunburn, are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, or have a mole that has recently changed in size, colour or shape. A changing mole needs a medical check first, not a laser.
