Temple Filler Korea: Who Should Skip? Cost, Reviews, Methods

Temple filler Korea: how it restores a hollow temple, why it carries vascular risk, who should skip it and what sets the cost. VOS Dermatology, Gangnam.

VOS Dermatology Clinic near Dosan Park, Seoul

Was your injector at home wary of your hollow temples, and is temple filler Korea starting to look like the way around that warning?

Read this before you pick your travel dates.

You'll know who should skip it, what decides the cost, which review claims hold up and which methods exist. That should help you judge whether it fits your temples and your budget.

Hello, I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with 21 years of experience and the Medical Director of VOS Dermatology Clinic. I perform every procedure here myself, and the temple is an area where a warning from another injector deserves a real reply.

Three facts about the clinic bear on this worry. The person who evaluates your temples is the person who injects them, because I do both. Our price list names two gels for this area, Juvederm Voluma and Belotero Volume, with the same listed price whatever your nationality. And we use a 5μm ultra-fine filter syringe to block particles such as ampoule glass shards.

I wrote this because people tend to treat the decision as a choice of product, while the cause of the hollow and the vessels running through the temple matter more.

Temple filler places a gel in the hollow beside the eye and brow to restore lost volume. It suits stable, volume-related hollowing. I'd tell some people to skip it, including anyone with an active skin problem there or a hollow still deepening from weight loss.

If you were given a warning at home, send a front photo and a three-quarter photo on WhatsApp, along with what you were told and one question: does my hollow look like volume loss or bone shape?

What does temple filler actually restore?

The temple loses fat and soft tissue with age, weight loss and very low body fat. The result is a dip beside the brow, a cheekbone that looks sharper than it used to, and an upper face that narrows. Filler puts back volume in that dip, so the line from forehead to cheek reads as one continuous curve.

That's the whole job. Filler doesn't tighten sagging skin, treat heavy eyelids or improve skin texture. A cosmetic product can't do it either, and my note on what a filler stick holds compared with an injected gel explains why a surface product won't refill a hollow.

The temple is rarely hollow alone. If the shadow carries on under the eye, that's a separate area with its own risks, and under-eye hollows are planned differently. Small amounts of filler change proportion elsewhere as well, as with filler for the shoulder line, but each site has its own anatomy, so what you read about one doesn't transfer to another.

Who should skip temple filler?

As general medicine, I would advise these people against it, at least for now:

  • Anyone with an infection, inflamed acne or a cold sore near the temple
  • Anyone who's still losing weight, because the hollow is still changing
  • Anyone pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Anyone with an allergy to a filler ingredient or a past serious reaction to filler
  • Anyone with older filler of unknown type in the same area, until that's been looked into
  • Anyone who had a laser or peel on that skin very recently
  • Anyone hoping for a slimmer face or lifted eyelids, since filler adds volume and does neither

Blood thinners and autoimmune conditions aren't an automatic no, but they need a conversation first. Keep taking anything prescribed until the doctor who prescribed it advises otherwise.

There's also a group the list can't capture: people whose temple shape comes mostly from bone. A prominent ridge can make a normal temple look hollow, and adding gel next to it may widen the upper face without removing the shadow you dislike.

Here's how I would reason through a typical case. Say you're 34, a distance runner with a lean face, and your injector at home called your temples risky because the veins show. I'd ask whether your weight is stable, whether the shadow bothers you in daylight or mostly in phone photos, and how soon you fly. If you're mid-training and still losing weight, this isn't the trip for it. If your weight has held and you have several days in Seoul, the conversation opens up.

Why might two doctors disagree about you? Both can be reasonable. Injectors differ in how they weigh vessel risk, in the technique they use and in how visible a hollow must be before treatment makes sense. A warning isn't something to shop around until it disappears, so ask what specifically worried them.

Why the temple deserves more caution than its size suggests

The temple holds arteries and veins at more than one depth, some of them connected to the circulation around the eye. Most of the planning for a temple injection comes down to keeping gel out of those vessels.

The common reactions are swelling, tenderness and bruising, and they usually settle within days to a couple of weeks. The serious one is rare but it's the reason for caution. The US FDA's dermal filler guidance warns that accidental injection into a blood vessel can block blood flow, with possible consequences including skin damage, vision problems, blindness and stroke.

Know the warning signs. Sudden severe pain, skin turning pale or mottled, a change in vision, or new weakness or trouble speaking all need urgent medical care, wherever you are. Lumps, redness that spreads, warmth or fever appearing days or weeks later also need a doctor's eye.

If you're weighing temple filler Korea against treatment closer to home, this is where the trip changes things. The US CDC's medical tourism guidance advises carrying copies of your records and arranging follow-up care before you travel. For filler, that means the product name, the amount and the injection sites written down, and a local doctor you could go to once you're back.

Worth knowing: Aching when you chew for a few days after a temple injection is common, because a chewing muscle sits underneath the area. A sudden change in your vision is a different matter: treat that as an emergency.

When you've been through that list, message your current medicines and your trip dates on WhatsApp, and ask how many days you should plan to stay in Seoul after the injection.

Which methods are used for temple filler?

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons groups fillers by material, and that's a useful place to begin, because material sets how a result builds and whether it can be reversed. Depth and instrument are the other variables. The table sets out the general options as doctors discuss them.

MethodHow it worksMain trade-off
Hyaluronic acid gel, deep with a needlePlaced in a small deposit close to the bonePrecise placement, but needs close attention to deep vessels
Hyaluronic acid gel, shallower with a blunt cannulaSpread in the layer under the skin through one entry pointCovers more area, but too shallow a gel can show or feel uneven
Collagen stimulators (PLLA, PDLLA, PCL)Encourage your own collagen graduallySlower change over more visits, and they can't be dissolved

On our price list, Juvederm Voluma is graded hard and Belotero Volume medium, and both name temples among their uses. Firmer gel holds shape more, which helps when it sits deep and has to support tissue above it. There's more detail on how gel grades relate to the face they suit.

We also carry collagen stimulators: Sculptra (PLLA), Juvelook Volume (PDLLA) and Gouri, a liquid PCL. I'd raise these for someone who wants a slower change, though they do less for a person on a single short visit. A hyaluronic gel has one specific advantage in the temple: an enzyme called hyaluronidase can break it down, which matters if something goes wrong. The VOS treatment menu lists the rest of what we offer.

VOS signature treatments: skin boosters (Juvelook, Juvelook Volume, Juveacell, Hilo Wave, Gouri), hand-injected by the doctor, and lifting with original devices (Ultherapy Prime, Thermage FLX, Sofwave, Onda and Opus)
The two things I focus on: skin boosters I inject by hand, and lifting with original devices.

How I approach a hollow temple

Every skin is different, and so is every temple. I look at the whole upper face first, because a hollow beside the brow can read differently depending on the forehead above it and the cheekbone below it. I want to see which part of the shadow actually bothers you, since treating a temple you've never noticed won't satisfy anyone.

Then comes the amount. Our principle is exact dosage: never more, never less than the area needs. Temples are where that principle gets tested, because restoring a contour takes less gel than most people assume, and the gel continues to settle and absorb water in the days after the injection.

Doctor's note

If you came to me because another doctor said no, I would want to hear their reason before anything else. Sometimes it was a matter of technique or comfort, and sometimes they saw something I'd also want to respect. I would rather you go home with hollow temples and a clear explanation than with filler you were talked into.

What do reviews say about temple filler?

A few claims turn up repeatedly in public threads, and medicine supports them to different degrees.

One claim is that temple filler lifts the eyes. This is partly true. Support near the brow tail can make the outer eye area look more open, but it doesn't lift the eyelid or fix hooded lids. Treat photos claiming a dramatic eye lift with some doubt.

Another claim is that filler always ends in pillow face. Overfilling is real, and it often builds up across repeat sessions in several areas rather than from one conservative treatment. It isn't inevitable, and it's a reason to ask how much is being placed and why.

The third claim is that any lump means a botched job. Not necessarily. Early firmness often settles as swelling goes down, though a lump that's painful, red or growing needs examining. Hard nodules can also appear later, so report them even if it has been months.

Thread advice about duration is also worth discounting. Many hyaluronic fillers last roughly 6 to 12 months or longer, and the figure shifts with the gel, the depth and your own metabolism.

What decides the cost of temple filler in Korea?

First comes the product, since Juvederm and Belotero sit on separate lines of our price list. Next is the amount: filler is priced by the mL, both temples need treating, and a deep hollow takes more than a slight one. Combining areas such as the cheeks raises the amount again. Choosing a collagen stimulator changes the sums altogether, because it may involve more than one session. Your days in Seoul count too, since you'll want some margin after the injection.

VAT is added on top of listed prices, so check whether any figure you're given includes it.

FAQ

Questions readers ask about temple filler korea

How long does temple filler usually last?
Many hyaluronic acid fillers last roughly 6 to 12 months or longer, and deep placement of a firmer gel can sit toward the longer end. Your metabolism, the amount placed and the specific product all affect this. Collagen stimulators behave differently, because the change builds slowly over several months rather than appearing on the day.
Will filler in my temples lift my eyes?
It can make the outer eye area look a little more open by supporting the tissue beside the brow tail. It won't raise a drooping eyelid or remove extra lid skin. If heavy lids are your main complaint, filler is unlikely to satisfy you, so mention that concern at your consultation and ask what else might address it.
Can temple filler be dissolved?
Hyaluronic acid gel can generally be broken down with an enzyme called hyaluronidase, which is one reason many doctors favor it in areas with important vessels. Collagen stimulators such as PLLA, PDLLA and PCL can't be dissolved in this way. Ask which material you are receiving, and keep a written record of it for later.
How soon can I fly after temple filler?
No fixed number applies to everyone. Cabin pressure isn't the main concern; the concern is being somewhere you can get help if warning signs appear. Leaving a few days in Seoul after the injection gives swelling time to show itself and gives you time to return if something feels wrong. Raise this when you plan your dates.
Does temple filler change the shape of my face?
It changes the outline of the upper face, usually by softening the dip between forehead and cheekbone. Too much can make the upper face look wider, particularly if your bone structure already gives you broad temples. Bring a photo of how you looked before the hollow appeared, which helps set a sensible target for the amount.
