Korean Under Eye Filler: Hollows, Risks and Listed Prices

Korean under eye filler: when a soft HA gel helps a tear trough, when bags or thin skin need another fix, risks and listed prices — VOS Dermatology, Gangnam

I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with 21 years in practice. At VOS Dermatology Clinic in Gangnam I see every patient myself, from the first consultation to the injection, and the under-eye area is where I take the most time. Visitors ask me about under-eye filler often, usually after seeing photos of smooth, bright eyes online, so I want to explain when it helps and when it quietly makes things worse.

The short answer on Korean under eye filler: a small amount of soft hyaluronic acid gel can soften a true hollow, the groove often called the tear trough, and the shadow it casts. It does not remove puffy bags, brown pigment or crepey skin, and those are the reasons most people feel tired-looking. This guide is for adults abroad who want to know whether their under-eye concern is a filler problem at all before they plan a trip.

If you want the broader picture first — which gels exist, how firmness is matched to each area and how pricing works per mL — my complete guide to Korean filler covers the whole face. Here I stay with the questions that only apply under the eyes.

Why the under-eye area is different from the rest of the face

The skin under the eyes is among the thinnest on the body, and it sits over a complex area of muscle, fat pads and ligaments. When you blink, squint or smile, it moves. That combination makes it unforgiving: a little gel that would vanish in the cheek can show here as a bump, a bluish tint or puffiness.

The tear trough itself is a groove where the lower lid meets the cheek. With age, or simply with inherited anatomy, the tissue there thins and the cheek fat descends. The result is a hollow that catches shadow, especially under overhead light.

Because the margin for error is narrow, under-eye filler korea clinics are known for tends to use very soft gels in small amounts. That is a sensible direction, but the product choice matters less than whether filler was the right idea in the first place.

Hollow, bags, pigment or thin skin: what you actually have

Most people describe four different problems with one phrase, dark circles. Each needs a different answer, and only one of them is mainly a filler problem.

  • A hollow (tear trough): a groove casting shadow, more visible from above. This is where soft filler can help.
  • Puffy bags: fat pads pushing forward, often worse in the morning. Filler near bags can make them look larger.
  • Pigment: brown colour in the skin itself. It does not respond to volume.
  • Thin, crepey skin: fine lines and visible vessels showing through. This is a skin-quality issue, better suited to a booster.

Many faces have two of these at once. I usually ask you to look up, look down and sit under different light, because a hollow and a bag can look alike in a selfie. If thin skin is your main concern, my article on Rejuran for the eye area explains the booster route in detail.

Worth knowing: If you have visible bags, more volume under the eye is rarely the fix. Filler can sit beside a bag and make the contour look puffier, and hyaluronic acid can hold some water in this area. I would rather say no to under-eye filler than create swelling you notice every morning.

For the under-eye area I prepare very little product and keep cool pads close, because this skin bruises and swells more easily than the cheek.

Which products are used under the eyes

Our price list names several options for the eye area, and they belong to different groups. Juvederm Volbella is a soft filler listed for a sunken eye. Belotero Revive is a hyaluronic acid skin booster listed mainly for under-eye hydration, fine lines and mild hollowing; it improves the area without acting as a structural filler.

Two regenerative options also appear. Juveàcell 8% is listed as a treatment for the delicate eye area, improving skin quality, elasticity and structural support. Rejuran Eye is a polynucleotide booster for fine lines and elasticity under the eyes.

For lid and brow laxity, which can make the under-eye area look worse, the list includes Ultherapy PRIME Eye. I explain how that device works in my guide to Ultherapy Prime in Korea, and the details are on the Ultherapy Prime page.

Risks that are specific to under-eye filler

The common effects are swelling, tenderness and bruising, generally settling over several days. Around the eyes they are more visible, because the skin is thin and the small vessels sit close to the surface. Some people have no mark; others need concealer for a few days. Individual reactions vary.

Three problems are more particular to this area. Gel placed too superficially can show a bluish tinge through thin skin, often called the Tyndall effect. Hyaluronic acid can attract water and cause prolonged puffiness, especially in people who already swell easily. Overfilling can blur the line between lid and cheek, which looks heavy rather than fresh.

The serious risk, rare in general, is filler compromising a blood vessel. Around the eyes this needs particular care in planning and technique. Hyaluronic acid filler can, in general, be dissolved with hyaluronidase, which is one reason it is used here, but dissolving is a correction, not a plan.

VOS signature treatments: skin boosters (Juvelook, Juvelook Volume, Juveacell, Hilo Wave, Gouri), hand-injected by the doctor, and lifting with original devices (Ultherapy Prime, Thermage FLX, Sofwave, Onda and Opus)
The two things I focus on: skin boosters I inject by hand, and lifting with original devices.

What a visit looks like, and planning it around a trip

The appointment begins with a consultation and a close look at the skin, the hollow and how the area moves. If I think filler fits, numbing cream goes on first. I place a small amount, check it with you sitting up and stop early rather than late.

Afterwards we use cool pads for a few minutes. Swelling makes the first days misleading, so I prefer to judge the contour once it settles. For a visitor, that means:

  • Treat the under-eye area early in your stay.
  • Avoid rubbing your eyes, saunas, heavy exercise and alcohol for the first days.
  • Keep a few quiet days before your flight, ideally with time for a short review.

If you are also having a booster or a lifting treatment, tell me your dates first so I can set the order sensibly.

How I approach under-eye treatment at VOS

My first question is not which product, but which problem. I look at the hollow, the bags, the skin and the lid, in more than one light, and I ask how the area changes through the day. Often the honest answer is that filler should be a small part of the plan, or none of it.

When a true tear trough is the main issue and the skin is reasonably thick, a soft filler in a small amount can be a good choice. When the skin is thin and finely lined, I usually start with a booster, and the product family is described on our Rejuran treatment page. When lid laxity is the driver, lifting comes first.

I tell you the amount before we start, and I would rather place less and review it with you than chase a flat line on the first day.

Before you message us

The most useful thing you can send is two close photos of your eyes in daylight, without make-up or a filter: one looking straight ahead and one looking slightly up. Add your travel dates and whether you have had under-eye filler or boosters before, and when. The clinic is in front of Dosan Park and is closed on Wednesdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Results, timing and recovery vary from person to person. Nothing here replaces an in-person consultation with a dermatologist.

Send your concern, photos and dates on WhatsApp, and our team will reply with an honest view of whether filler fits and a clear quote before anything is scheduled.

FAQ

Questions readers ask about korean under eye filler

Does under-eye filler get rid of dark circles?
Only one kind. If the darkness is a shadow cast by a hollow, a small amount of soft filler can reduce it. If it comes from pigment in the skin, visible vessels through thin skin or puffy bags, filler will not fix it and can make bags look worse. I check which cause is present before suggesting anything for the area.
How long does under-eye filler last?
Soft hyaluronic acid gels under the eyes often last longer than people expect, because the area moves less than the mouth and the amounts are small. The exact duration depends on the product, the amount and your own metabolism, so I give you a range in person rather than a single number. Results vary from person to person.
Can I fly home the day after under-eye filler?
Flying itself is not the issue. The concern is that swelling and bruising around the eyes show easily and can last several days, and you lose the chance of a review if something feels uneven. I suggest treating the under-eye area early in your stay and leaving a few days before your flight.
Is a skin booster safer than filler under the eyes?
They do different jobs, so safer is not quite the right comparison. A booster improves thin, crepey skin without adding shape, while filler supports a hollow. Both carry bruising and swelling risks. For many people a booster is the more suitable first step, with filler added only if a true hollow remains.
What if I already had under-eye filler at home?
Tell me when it was done and, if you know, which product. Old filler can stay in the area longer than expected and sometimes causes puffiness or a bluish tinge. I examine the area first and will tell you honestly if adding more is a poor idea or if the existing filler needs attention.
