Seoul Skin Clinic: How to Choose One, From a Dermatologist

I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with 21 years in practice and the founder of VOS Dermatology Clinic in Gangnam. At VOS I do the consultation and the treatment myself, one patient at a time, and nothing is handed to another doctor. Visitors often tell me they spent weeks comparing clinics online and still did not know what to look for, so I want to share the questions I would ask if I were choosing a clinic for my own family.

Choosing a Seoul skin clinic comes down to five checks: who the doctor is, who actually performs your treatment, whether the product and dose are genuine, how hygiene is handled, and whether the price and communication are clear before you arrive. Clinic interiors and social media reach tell you very little about those. This guide is for adults abroad planning skin treatment in Seoul who want a practical way to judge any clinic, including mine.

Start with the doctor: credentials you can verify

The first question is simple: is the doctor who will treat you a board-certified dermatologist? In Korea, doctors with different training can offer aesthetic skin treatments. Board certification in dermatology means years of specialist training in skin disease, anatomy and complications, which matters most when something does not go as planned.

Ask for the name of the doctor who will treat you, not only the name of the clinic director. Then check that the same name and title appear on the clinic's own website. Look for signs of ongoing clinical and academic work, such as teaching roles, society memberships or conference lectures, which suggest the doctor keeps up with the field.

For transparency, here is what I can show you about myself. I am the Medical Director of VOS, an adjunct professor at Cheongju University and at Dongguk University, and a director of the Korean Dermatologist Association and the Korean Association for Anti-Aging Dermatology. Who actually performs your treatment

This is the question many visitors forget to ask. Some clinics are organized so that one doctor consults and another doctor, or a different team, performs the treatment. That is not automatically wrong, but you should know in advance.

When you message a skin clinic in Seoul, ask:

• Who examines my skin and decides the plan?
• Who performs the injection or holds the device handpiece?
• Will the same doctor see me if I have a question after treatment?

At VOS, the answer to all three is me. All procedures are performed by me, and our coordinators, nurses and team support scheduling, preparation and aftercare. I think this continuity matters, because the person who planned your treatment is the one who knows why each choice was made.

Genuine products, correct amounts, and how to check

Two principles guide how we work at VOS: genuine product and correct amount. They sound obvious, but they are the easiest things for a patient to overlook.

For injectables, ask which product will be used and how much, in mL, vials or units. Ask to see the sealed product before it is opened. For device treatments, ask about the tip or cartridge and the planned number of shots. Worth knowing: A lower quote is not a problem in itself, but an unclear one is. If a quote does not name the product, the amount and whether VAT is included, ask for those three details in writing before you compare it with anything else.

Hygiene and safety you can ask about

Hygiene is hard to judge from photos, so ask. At VOS, our safety system includes autoclave and UV sterilizers, strict use of disposables, infection-control training for staff, regular equipment inspection and an air purification system.

For injections, we use a 5 micrometer filter syringe, which is designed to block tiny particles such as ampoule glass fragments before they reach the skin. Small details like this are worth asking about anywhere.

Also ask how the clinic handles comfort and complications. At VOS, numbing cream and nitrous oxide sedation are available, and I plan every treatment with your medical history in mind. Tell any clinic about pregnancy, breastfeeding, active skin infections, medicines and past treatments before anything is booked. Recovery and results vary from person to person.

Clear pricing for international patients

Price confusion is one of the most common worries I hear from visitors. A clear clinic publishes prices, explains what they include and gives you a written quote before the day of treatment.

VOS publishes an official English price list in Korean Won. A 10% VAT is added where applicable, the same pricing applies to all nationalities, and prices may change without prior notice. If you consider a prepaid package, read the refund rule first: when a partly used package is refunded, the treatments received are recalculated at the regular price and a 10% cancellation fee on the total package applies.

For short trips, paying per session is often the more honest choice. A package only makes sense if you are confident you will return to complete it.

Questions to ask any Seoul skin clinic

Here is a short checklist you can copy into your message to any clinic. The third column shows how VOS answers, so you can compare.

How I run VOS as a clinic

VOS means "you" in Latin, and the idea behind the name is that your skin is the starting point of every plan. In practice, that means I examine your skin in person, together with our 3D skin analysis and VOS Skin MBTI, before suggesting anything.

I prefer short plans. Usually one main treatment and at most one supporting one, chosen for the days you have in Seoul. If a treatment you have read about does not suit your skin, I say so. The clinic is at 806 Eonju-ro in Gangnam, in front of Dosan Park, on the first to fourth floors. We are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10:00–19:00, Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00, and closed on Wednesdays, Sundays and public holidays.
