Gangnam Skin Clinic: Getting There and What Each Floor Does

I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist, and for 21 years I have spent my working days treating skin. My clinic, VOS Dermatology, is in Gangnam, and I do every consultation and every treatment there myself, one patient at a time. Because visitors often arrive in the neighborhood unsure where they are going, I want to explain how a Gangnam skin clinic visit actually works on the ground.

A Gangnam skin clinic is simply a dermatology or aesthetic clinic in the Gangnam district of Seoul, where a large share of the city's skin clinics are concentrated. Location tells you where a clinic is, not how good it is. It is for adults who have narrowed their search to Gangnam and want to know how to get to the clinic, what happens where, and how to plan the day.

Why so many skin clinics are in Gangnam

Gangnam is the business and shopping district south of the Han River. Over the years, many dermatology and aesthetic clinics opened close to one another here, especially around Sinsa, Apgujeong and Cheongdam. For a visitor, that density has two sides.

The upside is convenience. Hotels, shops and restaurants are nearby, and the streets are used to international visitors. The downside is noise. With so many clinics side by side, it becomes harder to tell who the treating doctor is and what the price actually includes.

My advice is to ignore the neighborhood name on a clinic's advertising and ask the same questions you would ask anywhere. Who is the doctor, who performs the procedure, and what is the written price?

Finding VOS: address, subway and landmarks

VOS is at 806 Eonju-ro, Gangnam-gu, across the first to fourth floors of the building. The easiest landmark is Dosan Park: we are directly in front of it. If you tell a taxi driver "Dosan Park" and then the address, you will be close.

By subway, you have three options:

• Line 7, Gangnam-gu Office Station, Exit 3, about an 11-minute walk
• Line 3, Apgujeong Station, Exit 3, about a 14-minute walk
• Suin-Bundang Line, Apgujeong Rodeo Station, Exit 5, about a 14-minute walk

The walk from Apgujeong Rodeo passes through a busy shopping area, which some visitors enjoy before or after an appointment. If you have had a treatment that leaves your face red for a while, a taxi back to your hotel may be more comfortable. Valet parking is available at the building if you come by car.

What happens on each floor at VOS

Visitors sometimes find a four-floor clinic confusing, so here is the layout. The table shows what each floor is used for.

A typical first visit moves upward through the building. You check in and wait on the first floor, meet me on the second, and go to the third floor only if a laser or device treatment is planned. The fourth floor is where skin care happens and where you can freshen up before you leave.

The floors separate rooms by purpose. They do not separate doctors. You meet me in the consultation room, and I perform the procedure, whichever floor it takes place on.

Worth knowing: The powder room on the fourth floor exists for a reason. After some treatments your skin may be red or have numbing cream residue, and it helps to have a quiet place to clean up before walking back out into Gangnam.

Visiting several Gangnam clinics in one trip

Because clinics sit a few streets apart, many visitors book two or three consultations on the same day. That is reasonable, and I would do the same in your place. It only works if you compare like with like.

For each consultation, write down four things before you leave the room: the name of the doctor who examined you, whether that same doctor would perform the treatment, the product or device and the amount, and the written price with or without VAT. Without those notes, three consultations quickly blur into one.

Be wary of pressure to decide on the spot. A same-day discount is not a reason to have a procedure you had not planned. If a plan is right for your skin, it will still be right after lunch.

The one thing I ask visitors not to do is collect treatments from different clinics in the same few days. When one doctor does not know what another injected or lasered yesterday, neither can plan safely, and neither can tell you which treatment caused a reaction. If you have already had something done in Seoul this week, tell me exactly what it was before I suggest anything.

Planning your day around a Gangnam appointment

Check the calendar before anything else. We are open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10:00–19:00, Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00. The weekday lunch break is 13:00–14:00, and Saturday runs without one. We are closed on Wednesdays, Sundays and Korean public holidays.

For a first visit, I suggest a morning or early afternoon slot. That leaves time for the consultation, skin analysis and, if appropriate, treatment the same day without rushing. Arrive without heavy make-up if you can, since I look at your skin in person before deciding anything.

Think about what comes after. A treatment with no downtime fits easily before shopping or dinner. An injectable that may bruise or swell for a few days is better placed early in your trip. Recovery options inside the building

Some visitors ask whether there is anything to help them recover after a treatment or a long flight. Two options on our price list are used for that purpose.

VacuMed Therapy is intermittent vacuum therapy designed to improve circulation and support post-treatment recovery. It is listed at ₩140,000 for one session. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, which uses high-pressure oxygen to support recovery and tissue healing, is listed at ₩280,000 for one session.

How I approach a first visit in Gangnam

Every plan at VOS starts from the same place: your skin, examined in person. Before suggesting anything, I combine what I see with our 3D skin analysis and the VOS Skin MBTI, a questionnaire-and-analysis method that reads how your skin tends to behave.

Then I keep the plan short. One main treatment, sometimes one supporting option, chosen for the days you have. If a treatment you read about online does not suit your skin, I tell you why.
