Hilo Wave HA Filler Korea: Downtime? Cost, Reviews and Methods
Hilo Wave HA filler Korea downtime, day by day: what settles when, what decides cost, and how many Seoul days to plan. VOS Dermatology, Gangnam.

Will the small bumps from a Hilo Wave HA filler Korea trip still show when you board your flight home?
Read this before you lock in your return date.
By the end you'll know how downtime usually runs day by day, what decides the cost, which review claims hold up, and how Hilo Wave differs from other HA methods. That lets you decide how many of your Seoul days to give it.
Hello, I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with 21 years of experience and the medical director of VOS Dermatology Clinic in Gangnam.
I see you myself from the consultation through the treatment. The clinic occupies four floors of a building in front of Dosan Park. It's open on Saturdays until 16:00 and closed on Wednesdays and Sundays, and prices are the same for every nationality.
I'm writing this because many visitors plan a booster trip around the downtime of a volume filler, or around no downtime at all, and both get the calendar wrong.
Hilo Wave is a hyaluronic acid skin booster that combines cross-linked and non-cross-linked HA, placed in many small amounts through the skin to improve hydration, texture and fine lines. For many people the bumps flatten within a day or two and a bruise, if you get one, fades over one to two weeks. So it belongs early in your trip.
If you're unsure how that fits your stay, send a front-facing photo taken in daylight and your arrival and departure dates on WhatsApp. Add the one thing you most want to know, for example whether a five-night stay leaves enough room.

Methods: is Hilo Wave a filler or a skin booster?
The label in a Hilo Wave HA filler Korea search is half right. The product is hyaluronic acid, the same family of material as many fillers, and part of it is cross-linked. Cross-linking is the chemistry that lets HA stay in tissue longer than free HA. The clinic describes Hilo Wave as a dual-action hyaluronic acid skin booster for hydration, pores, fine lines, texture and radiance, with results that typically last 3–4 months.
A shaping filler works another way. A firmer gel goes deeper, in larger amounts, at a few chosen points to lift a cheek, build a chin or fill a hollow. Hilo Wave spreads across a wider area in many small deposits. Its treatment page lists volume and elasticity among the effects; as I read that, the skin itself looks fuller and more supple, while the shape of your face stays where it is.
That difference drives the downtime. Many small, shallow injections leave many small bumps that settle fast. A few deep deposits leave fewer marks but more swelling in one spot. If you're weighing a contour filler instead, my post on what differs between Korean filler and Juvederm covers that choice. Hollows under the eyes are their own question, covered in Korean under eye filler: hollows and risks. Filler for the body, such as shoulder filler in Korea, is a different product with a different plan.
What does Hilo Wave downtime look like day by day?
The table shows the general pattern after shallow HA booster injections. Your own skin, how many points are injected and how easily you bruise all shift it a little.
| When | What you may notice | What it means for your plans |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment day | Small raised bumps at injection points, redness, mild tenderness | A quiet evening; skip alcohol, saunas and hard workouts |
| Day 1 | Most bumps flatter; some puffiness on waking | Walking and sightseeing are fine; makeup is commonly left until the next day |
| Days 2–3 | Remaining bumps usually gone; a bruise may become visible | Close-up photos may catch a bruise; concealer usually covers it |
| Days 4–14 | Any bruise fades from purple to yellow | Most people fly and work as usual |
| Weeks 2–4 | Skin feels more hydrated as the HA settles | The texture change usually shows here |
| Months 3–4 | The effect tapers | The clinic's description puts typical results at 3–4 months |
The day people misjudge is the morning after. Swelling from fluid shifts tends to sit higher overnight, so your face can look puffier at breakfast on day 1 than it did leaving the clinic. By lunch it usually looks better.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration's overview of dermal fillers lists bruising, redness, swelling, pain, tenderness and itching among the common side effects of HA injections. For a booster, those are the things your calendar has to absorb.

How many days in Seoul should you plan?
Count backward from your flight. For most visitors I'd want the treatment to fall at least two or three full days before departure, and about a week before any wedding or photo shoot waiting for you at home. The flight itself isn't the concern with shallow HA; arriving home with a visible bruise is.
Worth knowing: the clinic is closed on Wednesdays, Sundays and Korean public holidays. Hours are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 10:00–19:00, Friday 10:00–20:00 and Saturday 10:00–16:00, so match your treatment day to those before you book flights.
Say you land at Incheon on a Thursday night and fly home the following Tuesday evening. Friday becomes your treatment day: the clinic is open until 20:00, so a slow jet-lagged morning can still end with an afternoon appointment. Saturday morning is the puffy one. By Sunday most bumps are gone, and Monday shows you whether a bruise has surfaced. Monday and Tuesday are both open days, so ask at booking whether a short check fits before you leave.
Now flip it. You land on a Tuesday and fly out on Thursday evening. Wednesday is closed, and a Thursday morning session leaves no buffer at all before the airport. With dates like that, I'd move the booster to a longer trip, or plan the rest of your visit around something with less visible aftermath.
If your dates look like neither example, send them on WhatsApp with your flight times and ask which day would work as your treatment day.
Reviews: what they get right and wrong
Most review threads about boosters repeat a handful of claims. Some hold up medically and some don't.
“There's no downtime.” Half true. There's no wound and you can go out the next day, but bumps for a day or two and a possible bruise are real downtime when you're taking holiday photos.
“It's a filler, so it will change my face shape.” That isn't what this product is designed to do. If your goal is a higher cheekbone, softer jowls or a fuller lip, that is a volume decision with a different product.
“One session lasts a year.” The clinic's own description says results typically last 3–4 months. How many sessions make sense for your skin is a question for the consultation.
“Fillers give you pillow face.” Pillow face describes too much volume placed again and again in the cheeks and mid-face. A booster spread thinly through the skin isn't how that look usually happens. Dose still matters, and with every injectable I aim for the amount your skin needs, never more and never less.
The vascular occlusion threads, often about lip, nose or temple filler, describe something real. Any HA injection can rarely enter or press on a blood vessel. Small shallow deposits carry a different risk profile from a large deep bolus in the nose, yet no HA injection is free of it. The signs are covered in the risk section below.

What decides the cost of Hilo Wave?
A few things move the figure for your case:
- Amount. Hilo Wave is listed by volume, in a single-session size and a larger size. A full face plus neck needs more than one area.
- Number of sessions. Because results typically last 3–4 months, some people plan repeat visits; others treat once before an event.
- What else you do on the same visit. A booster is often one step in a plan. If you're stacking treatments for overall glow, the order matters, which I cover in how to achieve Korean glass skin.
- Your days in Seoul. A short stay may mean a smaller area this trip and more next time.
To get a figure for your own face, send a daylight photo of the area you care about on WhatsApp and ask what it would cost for your case. My position is that you should get a straight answer on what is realistic, and a quote, before you book.
How I approach Hilo Wave on a short trip
Every plan starts with a skin analysis by me, and I choose the device or combination for your face rather than a package. For a visitor, the detail that changes my plan most is when the flight leaves.
If your skin looks dehydrated, with fine lines and a dull surface, a booster like Hilo Wave fits the problem. If the main concern is skin that has started to sag along the jaw, a booster won't lift it. On our menu, lifting is the job of devices such as Ultherapy PRIME, which works on the deeper support layer, and Sofwave, which works on the skin's surface layer. Cheek filler can soften the look of jowls in some faces by restoring support, but that is a volume decision with its own risks, and Hilo Wave doesn't do it.
Doctor's note
If you have only three days, I'd rather treat a smaller area and keep your flight comfortable than cover your whole face and send you to the gate with a bruise. What I aim for is skin that still looks like yours, only better hydrated. The consultation is where we set that expectation together, before any needle.

Who should wait, and what if something feels wrong at home?
Risks and side effects to know
The common reactions are temporary: raised bumps at the injection points, redness, swelling, tenderness, itching and bruising. Bumps usually settle within a day or two; a bruise can take one to two weeks to fade. The American Academy of Dermatology describes the same group of short-lived effects for fillers in general.
As general medicine, it's wiser to wait or skip if any of these apply to you:
- active acne, infection, a cold sore or a rash on the area to be treated
- a laser treatment or peel on the same area in the past few weeks
- a recent course of isotretinoin
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- a known allergy to hyaluronic acid products or numbing agents
- blood thinners or supplements that raise bruising; tell the doctor, and don't stop a prescribed medicine on your own
Whether you're a candidate is something the in-person exam settles, because the photo can't show everything.
The rare but serious risk is HA blocking a blood vessel. Warning signs are skin that turns white or dusky, pain that grows instead of easing, or a blotchy pattern spreading from an injection point. Any change in vision is an emergency: get urgent care at once. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can dissolve HA, which is one reason HA products are used for these areas.
If something feels off after you're home, send a photo on WhatsApp and see a local doctor in person; don't wait for a reply before getting seen. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advises medical travelers to carry copies of their records and arrange follow-up care at home before they leave, so pack the product name and the date of your session. Results and recovery vary from person to person.

Before you message us
Write to us on WhatsApp with a list of the medicines and supplements you take and the date of any injection or laser you've had in the past few months. Add the one question you most want answered. That history is what tells you whether your dates leave room for a booster at all.
When you come to Gangnam, I examine your skin and recommend the amount, area and treatment day that fit your face and your flight. Results vary by person.
