Korean Anti Aging: How a Dermatologist Layers Treatments
Korean anti aging, layer by layer: how I combine lifting devices, skin boosters and toxin, what each does, and listed prices. VOS Dermatology, Gangnam.

I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist, and I have spent 21 years treating ageing skin. At VOS Dermatology Clinic in Gangnam I do each consultation and each treatment myself, one patient at a time. Visitors often arrive with a list of five treatments they saw online, so I want to explain how I actually decide which ones a face needs.
Korean anti aging, as practised in a dermatology clinic, is less about one famous device and more about layering: lifting the deep support layer, firming the dermis, improving the surface and relaxing lines made by movement. This guide is for adults planning a trip to Seoul who want to understand how those pieces fit together before they book anything, and which ones they can skip.

Why Korean anti aging is built in layers
A face does not age in one place. The deep support layer loosens, the dermis thins and loses collagen, the surface gets drier and rougher, and repeated muscle movement etches lines. Each of those changes responds to a different kind of treatment.
That is the core idea behind most anti aging treatment in Korea. Instead of asking one device to do everything, a dermatologist matches a tool to each layer. Our own price list reflects this: at VOS, lifting and skin tightening are treated as distinct concepts, and the technologies are frequently combined.
The benefit is precision. The risk is overtreatment, because it is easy to add a fourth or fifth item that the face did not need. My job at consultation is to find the one or two layers that are actually driving the change you see in the mirror.
It also helps to be clear about limits. None of these treatments removes excess skin the way surgery does, and none of them stops ageing. What a well-chosen korean anti aging treatment plan can do is slow the visible change and make the face look rested for a period, and that period varies by person.
The four layers and the tools I use for each
Here is how I map the main concerns to the treatments documented at VOS. It is a simplified picture, but it is the one I draw for patients on paper.
| Layer | What changes with age | Treatments I consider at VOS |
|---|---|---|
| Deep support (SMAS) | Jawline softens, brows drop | Ultherapy PRIME |
| Deep and mid dermis | Overall laxity, crepey skin | Thermage FLX, Volnewmer, Sofwave |
| Skin quality | Fine lines, thin or rough skin | Rejuran, Juvelook, other skin boosters |
| Muscle movement | Forehead, frown and crow's-feet lines | Botulinum toxin |
Volume loss sits across these layers. For hollow temples or cheeks, I may discuss a collagen stimulator such as Sculptra or Juvelook Volume, but only when the face is genuinely losing volume rather than descending.

Lifting the support layer: ultrasound
When the jawline has softened or the brows have dropped, the problem is usually in the deep support layer, the SMAS. That is the layer a surgeon tightens, and it is the layer Ultherapy PRIME is designed to reach with focused ultrasound.
The PRIME version adds DeepSEE imaging, so I can see the layers on screen before each line of shots. A session takes under an hour, there is no downtime, and mild redness for 1–2 days is possible. Collagen builds over 2–3 months, and a single session is designed to last up to a year. Results vary by person.
If you are weighing ultrasound against radiofrequency, I compare the two directly in Ultherapy vs Thermage.
Firming the dermis: radiofrequency and shallow ultrasound
Many people do not have much descent at all. What bothers them is skin that feels looser, thinner or crepey, especially around the eyes. That is a dermis problem, and heat-based tightening devices work there.
At VOS the options include Thermage FLX, Volnewmer and Sofwave. Thermage FLX heats the deep dermis evenly across an area with radiofrequency. Volnewmer is a monopolar radiofrequency device that I often suggest for people sensitive to pain or who want regular maintenance. Sofwave works at 1.5mm, the depth where fine lines live, and suits thin skin with crinkly lines.
Double Tite is another option for early change: it pairs radiofrequency with focused ultrasound in a session completed within 15 minutes, and I use it mainly for prevention.
Choosing between them depends on where your laxity sits and how your skin tolerates heat. I explain that choice device by device in my guide to Korean skin tightening treatment.

Improving skin quality: boosters
Devices change structure. They do not do much for the texture of the skin surface, its hydration or its fine crepiness. That is where skin boosters come in.
Rejuran combines polynucleotides with hyaluronic acid to support regeneration and hydration; it suits thinner, more sensitive skin. Juvelook combines hyaluronic acid with PDLLA and is used mainly for fine wrinkles and elasticity, usually over three sessions. Both involve fine needles and can cause swelling, bruising or redness for a few days.
Because boosters are usually planned as a series, they need more thought on a short trip. My guide to Korean skin boosters goes through the families and how I match one to a concern.
Relaxing movement lines: toxin
Forehead lines, frown lines and crow's feet are made by muscles. No device or booster relaxes a muscle, so this layer belongs to botulinum toxin.
A session takes about 10–15 minutes. The effect begins 2–3 days later, reaches its full effect at about 2 weeks and generally lasts 4–6 months, with individual variation. Our price list also carries Skin Quality Botox as a separate item, and I explain at consultation whether it suits your skin. If you want the brands and safety questions answered first, see my guide to Korean botox.
Worth knowing: More treatments in one visit does not mean a better result. When a plan stacks devices and injectables that all target the same layer, you pay more for overlap. I would rather do two things that answer two different problems than five that answer one.

What layered anti-aging costs at VOS
Each part is priced separately on our official English price list, updated in August 2026. A few examples for anti aging in Seoul at VOS: Ultherapy PRIME 300 Shots is listed at ₩1,800,000, and Thermage FLX 600 Shots at ₩2,400,000. The Signature Lift & Tightening Package, which combines Ultherapy PRIME and Sofwave, is listed at ₩4,900,000. Skin Quality Botox for the full face, 50 Units, is listed at ₩450,000, and Rejuran Healer 2 mL at ₩400,000.
All prices are in KRW before 10% VAT, which is added where applicable, and they may change without notice. The same pricing applies to all nationalities. The full list is on our pricing page.
Your total depends on how many layers genuinely need treatment, the shot counts or vials, and whether a series is involved. A photo quote is provisional; the plan is confirmed after I see your skin in person.
How I approach a layered plan
Walk into any Korean anti aging clinic and you will be shown a menu. I start with diagnosis instead. At VOS we use 3D skin analysis to look at the layers rather than just the surface, and I examine your face in the consultation room myself. Then I ask which change bothers you most, because the mirror and the scan do not always agree.
From there I build the smallest plan that addresses the main driver. For a softening jawline that might be ultrasound alone. For crepey skin with fine lines, it might be a tightening device plus a booster series. For a strong frown line on otherwise firm skin, toxin may be all you need.
I also plan the order. Devices with no downtime can sit early in a trip. Injections that may bruise go where you have a few quiet days afterwards. And if I think a treatment will not help your face, I leave it out and tell you why.
- Tell me the one change that bothers you most
- Bring a list of treatments you have had, with rough dates
- Mention any history of easy bruising, cold sores or keloids
- Share your full travel dates, including your flight home
