Korean Wrinkle Treatment: Matching Each Line to a Fix

I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist, and for 21 years I have spent a large part of every week looking closely at lines on faces. Many people abroad write to me with one photo and one question, "how do I get rid of these?", so here is how I actually answer it.

Korean wrinkle treatment, in a dermatology clinic, starts by asking what kind of line you have. Lines made by muscle movement respond to toxin; fine lines and crepey skin respond to energy devices and skin boosters; deep folds and some neck lines may need filler or a collagen stimulator. This guide is for adults planning a visit to Seoul who want to match their lines to the right treatment.

Why the type of line decides the treatment

The first thing I do is ask you to frown, raise your brows and smile, then relax. A line that appears only with expression is a dynamic wrinkle. A line still visible when your face is at rest is a static wrinkle. Many people have both in the same place, such as a forehead line that deepens when they lift their brows.

Then I look at the skin itself. Thin, dry, crepey skin creates a web of fine lines that no muscle relaxant will change. A deep fold, such as the one from nose to mouth, is mostly about support and volume, not about the skin surface.

That is why a single "anti wrinkle treatment" rarely fits everyone. Each type has its own tool, and the plan depends on which types you actually have.

Lines from movement: toxin, dosed carefully

Forehead lines, the frown lines between the brows and crow's feet at the outer eyes are the classic movement lines. Botulinum toxin relaxes the specific muscles that fold the skin there. At VOS we primarily use Xeomin, a highly purified toxin free of complexing proteins.

A session takes about 10–15 minutes. The effect begins 2–3 days afterwards, reaches its full effect at about 2 weeks and generally lasts 4–6 months, with individual variation. Temporary redness, swelling or bruising may occur and usually clears within days.

For forehead wrinkle treatment in Korea, dosing is the part that matters most. Too much in the forehead can drop the brows and make the upper face feel heavy. Fine lines and crepey texture: devices and boosters

Fine lines that sit in the skin itself are a dermis problem. Relaxing a muscle will not thicken thin skin, so this is where I use heat, ultrasound and injectable boosters.

Sofwave delivers ultrasound optimised for a 1.5mm depth, where fine wrinkles live, and stimulates collagen and elastic fibres. Mild redness or swelling fades in about 20–30 minutes. Boosters work from inside the skin. Juvelook combines hyaluronic acid with PDLLA and is used mainly for fine wrinkles and elasticity; results typically last about 6–12 months after three sessions. Lines around the eyes

The eye area gets its own section because the skin there is the thinnest on the face. Crow's feet that appear with a smile respond to toxin. Fine crinkling under the eye at rest does not.

For the periocular skin itself, the options at VOS include Thermage FLX Eye, radiofrequency designed to improve eyelid firmness and fine periocular wrinkles, and Ultherapy PRIME Eye for the upper eyelids and brow. Rejuran Eye is formulated for the under-eye area to improve fine lines, elasticity and skin quality.

Around the eyes I work more conservatively than anywhere else. Injections here can bruise more easily, so I plan them for a part of your trip when a few quiet days are possible.

Deep folds and neck lines

A deep nasolabial fold or a marionette line at the corner of the mouth is not really a wrinkle in the skin. It is where support has been lost and tissue has shifted. These can soften with a dermal filler placed to restore support, or gradually with a collagen stimulator such as Sculptra, which is used for nasolabial folds and overall facial wrinkles.

Horizontal neck lines are a special case. They are static creases in thin skin, and our price list includes a Horizontal Neck Lines program that combines 2 cc of dermal filler with Juveàcell to soften the lines while improving skin quality. Worth knowing: Filling every visible line is one of the quickest ways to make a face look heavy. A deep fold is often a sign of changes elsewhere, and treating the cause can soften the line more naturally than filling the line itself.

Your total depends on how many areas need toxin, the number of shots or vials, and whether a booster series is planned. The same pricing applies to all nationalities.

What to expect afterwards, and the honest limits

Most wrinkle treatments have little downtime, but "little" is not "none". Toxin and fine-needle injections can leave small bumps, redness or bruising for a few days. Energy devices usually cause redness that fades within minutes to hours. Plan any injections around photographs and events.

The limits are worth saying plainly. Deep static lines usually soften rather than vanish. Toxin wears off, so the lines return gradually unless it is repeated. Boosters and devices build collagen, but they do not stop the skin from continuing to age. Results vary from person to person.

Contact us if you notice drooping of an eyelid or brow, swelling that increases after the first few days, or any lump that is painful or warm. These are uncommon, but I would rather hear early.

How I approach wrinkle treatment

I watch your face move before I look at it still. Then I map each line: movement, skin quality, or support. Most people have a mix, and the plan follows that mix rather than a menu.

I start with the smallest change that answers the line that bothers you most. For a strong frown line on firm skin, that may be toxin alone. For crepey skin under the eyes, it may be a device plus a booster series. I also tell you what I would not treat, and why.

Timing matters on a trip. Toxin and devices can sit early in a visit. Injections that may bruise go where you have quiet days afterwards.
