Which South Korea Beauty Injection? Cost, Reviews, Methods

A South Korea beauty injection can mean toxin, filler, booster or fat-dissolving shot; each suits a different face. VOS Dermatology, Gangnam.

VOS Dermatology Clinic, Gangnam, Seoul

Have you seen a South Korea beauty injection on your feed but can't tell if it was a toxin, a filler or a booster, or whether a clinic would talk you into all three?

Read this before you book a first appointment anywhere.

You'll come away knowing what decides the cost, what reviews get right and wrong, the methods behind each type of injection, and who each one suits. With that, you can pick the one thing your face needs and stay within the budget you set.

Hello, I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim. I'm a board-certified dermatologist and the Medical Director of VOS Dermatology Clinic in Gangnam. I've worked in dermatology for 21 years, and I do every consultation and procedure myself.

Three things about the clinic matter for this worry. The price list is the same for every nationality. Injectables follow an exact-dosage rule and are drawn through a 5μm filter syringe designed to catch fragments such as ampoule glass. And each plan starts with a skin analysis, so the device or combination is chosen for your face instead of sold as a package.

I'm writing this because 'beauty injection' covers treatments that work in completely different ways, and people sometimes book the one they saw online instead of the one their face needs.

In Korea the term usually means one of five things: botulinum toxin for lines and muscle, hyaluronic acid filler for volume, skin boosters for skin quality, collagen stimulators for gradual firmness, and fat-dissolving injections for small pockets of fat. Most sessions take under an hour. What separates them is how soon you see a change and how many sessions you need.

If you already know which area bothers you, send one daylight photo of it on WhatsApp and ask which of those five, if any, applies to it.

What counts as a beauty injection in Korea?

Here is the glossary I wish every first-timer had before walking into a consultation room.

TypeWhat it doesWhen a change shows
Botulinum toxinRelaxes the muscle behind a line, or slims a large jaw muscleFrom 2–3 days, full at about 2 weeks
Hyaluronic acid fillerAdds volume where it's placedMostly right away, once swelling settles
Skin boosters such as RejuranImprove texture, fine lines and hydrationWithin about 12 weeks over a course
Collagen stimulators such as Juvelook and SculptraPrompt the skin to build collagen graduallySculptra from about 4–6 weeks
Fat-dissolving (V-Line Slim Injection)Reduces small fat deposits along the jaw and chinGenerally within 12 weeks

Two things people file under the same heading aren't skin injections at all. Vitamin and glutathione drips go into a vein. I've covered what glutathione can and cannot do and what the pink drip actually is in separate posts. And the searches that sit next to this one, such as plastic surgery and hair transplants, are outside my menu. VOS is a dermatology clinic, so this post stays with injections.

The face line treatments page groups toxin, collagen stimulators and boosters, and the body fit page covers the V-Line Slim Injection.

Methods: how each injection works under the skin

Botulinum toxin blocks the nerve signal to a muscle for a few months. A frown line softens because the muscle under it moves less. In the jaw, a large chewing muscle shrinks with less use, and the lower face looks narrower. My clinic's notes put expression lines at around 3–4 months, with jaw slimming often lasting longer.

Hyaluronic acid filler is a gel that holds water and takes up space. It goes deeper for structure, such as a cheek or chin, and shallower for fine lines. In the US, the FDA regulates dermal fillers as medical devices, which tells you they are a physical material in the skin rather than a drug that acts on it.

Skin boosters are placed in the dermis in many small points. With Rejuran, the active ingredient is polynucleotide (PN) from purified salmon DNA, which supports the skin's own repair. If you want to know more about the ingredient, I've written about what is in a salmon DNA syringe. Three sessions about a month apart is the standard course.

Collagen stimulators don't fill much on the day. They trigger the skin to lay down new collagen over the following weeks. My clinic's notes put Juvelook at about 6–12 months after three sessions and Sculptra, a poly-L-lactic acid injection, usually at about two years.

Fat-dissolving injections use bile-acid ingredients that break down fat cells, which the body then clears. The clinic lists a cholic acid injection as its preferred option for localized facial fat along the jawline, jowls and under the chin. A deoxycholic acid option is also on the menu. The course is 3–5 sessions at 12-week intervals. I've written more about fat-dissolving options and sessions.

Who suits which injection, and who doesn't?

The problem should pick the injection. A line that only appears when you frown or smile points toward toxin. A line or hollow that's there at rest points toward filler or a collagen stimulator. Skin that looks dull, dry or crepey points toward a booster. Fullness under the chin with firm skin above it points toward fat-dissolving injections. Skin that has loosened and hangs is where injections reach their limit.

Say you're 46, you've never had anything injected, your lower face looks heavier on video calls, and you fly home in six days. A heavier lower face has three common causes: a strong chewing muscle, fat under the jaw, or skin that has loosened. A dermatologist will usually look from the side and ask you to clench to tell them apart.

If it's muscle, one toxin session early in the trip makes sense, but the full effect arrives about two weeks later, when you're already home. If it's fat, the V-Line Slim Injection needs 3–5 sessions spaced 12 weeks apart, so you'd be committing to several trips, and you should know that before the first one. If it's loosened skin, no injection lifts it, and that's a different conversation about lifting devices. With six days and no history of injections, I'd pick one of these and do it early.

Injections suit you less if you want a dramatic change from a single visit, or if your main concern is sagging. In both cases, the plan you need is longer than a beauty injection.

How I approach a first-time injection plan

Every skin is different, and the diagnosis has to come before the product. Your plan starts with a skin analysis. A first plan should be one you can repeat back in a sentence: which product, how much, where, and when you'll see the change. I hold to exact dosage for every injectable, never more and never less than your skin needs. Genuine product is one of the clinic's three principles, so ask to see the box if it matters to you.

Doctor's note

For a first-timer, I'd rather you leave with one change you can judge than three that blur together. One well-placed treatment shows you what you like, which makes the next decision easier, and you won't have spent money on things you weren't sure about. If you came in wanting three things, I'll tell you which one I'd start with and why.

VOS signature treatments: skin boosters (Juvelook, Juvelook Volume, Juveacell, Hilo Wave, Gouri), hand-injected by the doctor, and lifting with original devices (Ultherapy Prime, Thermage FLX, Sofwave, Onda and Opus)
The two things I focus on: skin boosters I inject by hand, and lifting with original devices.

What do reviews get right about Korean injections?

A few claims come up again and again in review threads. Here's how they hold up.

'In and out in half an hour.' Mostly true for the injection itself. My clinic's notes list about 10–15 minutes for botulinum toxin and under 30 minutes for the V-Line Slim Injection. The consultation and skin analysis come on top of that time.

'Results were instant.' True for filler. Toxin takes days to two weeks, and boosters and collagen stimulators take weeks to months. A review posted the next morning is mostly describing swelling.

'I didn't know what they injected.' That worry is fair. Ask for the product name, the amount (units, mL or vials) and the areas, and ask to see the package. The US FDA also advises against buying fillers sold directly to the public and against pens that inject without a needle.

'It looked overdone.' This usually comes down to dose or placement, not the product, which is why I hold to exact dosing.

What are the risks, and when should you skip it?

Risks and side effects to know

Common reactions are temporary. My clinic's notes list redness, swelling or bruising that usually clears within days after toxin, 1–2 days after the V-Line Slim Injection, 2–3 days after Rejuran, and a few days after collagen stimulators.

Less common problems are worth knowing by name. The FDA lists accidental injection into a blood vessel among filler risks, which can damage skin and, rarely, affect vision. Toxin can spread to a nearby muscle and cause a temporary droop of a brow or eyelid, or an uneven smile. Collagen stimulators can form lumps, which is why there's a separate Juvelook nodule treatment on my menu.

For fat-dissolving injections, the FDA's 2026 safety communication on a deoxycholic acid injection approved for fat under the chin warns that use outside that area has been linked to nerve, muscle and other serious injuries. It also warns that lumps at the injection site may not go away on their own. That's why I treat placement and depth as the main safety question.

In general medicine, it's better to wait or skip if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an infection or active acne at the site, have had a recent laser or peel there, take isotretinoin, or are allergic to an ingredient such as salmon-derived PN or lidocaine. A neuromuscular condition is a reason to avoid toxin. Blood thinners make bruising more likely.

Worth knowing: If skin near a filler turns pale, blotchy or very painful within hours or days, treat it as urgent and go to an emergency department. Don't wait to message a clinic abroad.

After you fly home, a doctor there should see spreading redness, warmth, fever or a growing lump promptly. The US CDC's medical tourism guidance advises getting copies of your medical records and arranging follow-up care at home before you travel. So keep a note of each product, amount and area.

If you've had injections before, send the product names and roughly when you had them, together with a current photo, on WhatsApp. Then ask whether any of it rules a type out for now.

What decides the cost of a beauty injection in Seoul

Your cost is built from a few parts:

  • Type and product. Toxin, filler, booster, collagen stimulator and fat-dissolving injections each have their own line on the price list.
  • Amount. Toxin is counted in units, filler and boosters in mL, and collagen stimulators and fat-dissolving injections in vials or syringes.
  • Areas. Treating forehead, eyes and jaw in one visit adds up area by area.
  • Sessions and trips. A course of three boosters or 3–5 fat-dissolving sessions costs more than a single toxin visit, and it may mean more than one flight.
  • Comfort. Nitrous oxide sedation is available if you want it.

For your own figure, ask on WhatsApp what it would cost for your case, naming the area and attaching a photo of it.

FAQ

Questions readers ask about south korea beauty injection

How soon after a beauty injection can I fly home?
Most people can fly within a day or two. Flying doesn't affect toxin, boosters or fat-dissolving injections. The practical concerns are visible swelling or bruising and, after filler, staying close to help for the first days in case a rare blood-vessel problem appears. That's why I prefer to schedule injections early in a trip, not on the last day.
Do these injections hurt?
Most feel like a series of quick, sharp pricks, and many points over a wide area can feel more intense. Some products contain lidocaine, a local anesthetic, which makes the session easier. Nitrous oxide sedation is available at the clinic if needles worry you. Toxin sessions are the shortest, at about 10–15 minutes according to my clinic's notes.
Can I have more than one type of injection in the same visit?
Sometimes, if the skin analysis shows two separate problems, such as a strong jaw muscle and dull skin. For a first-timer, I usually suggest starting with one so you can judge the result clearly. The combination is chosen for your face, not taken from a package, so mention everything you're considering in your first message.
How long do the results last?
That depends on the type. My clinic's notes put toxin for expression lines at around 3–4 months, with jaw slimming often longer. Rejuran lasts about six months after a course, Juvelook about 6–12 months after three sessions, and Sculptra usually about two years. Fat-dissolving results are described as long-lasting once the course is done. Individual results differ.
Is VOS a plastic surgery or hair transplant clinic?
No. VOS is a dermatology clinic. The menu covers injections such as toxin, fillers, skin boosters, collagen stimulators and fat-dissolving injections, plus lifting and laser devices. Surgery and hair transplants aren't offered. If your concern turns out to need surgery, I'd say so plainly at the consultation instead of offering an injection that can't fix it.

Results, timing and recovery vary from person to person. This article is general information from VOS Dermatology Clinic and does not replace an in-person consultation. Any prices mentioned are from the clinic’s official price list (KRW, before VAT) and may change.
