Skin Botox Korea: Micro Botox for Pores, Oil and Jawline

Skin botox Korea guide: how micro botox differs from muscle botox, what it does for pores, oil and the jawline, and listed prices — VOS Dermatology, Gangnam.

Dr. Hongseok Kim, board-certified dermatologist, holding a vial and fine syringe in the VOS consultation room, Gangnam

I'm Dr. Hongseok Kim, a board-certified dermatologist with 21 years in practice. At VOS Dermatology in Gangnam, I see each patient myself, from the first conversation to the last injection point, one person at a time. Skin botox is a request I hear often from visitors who have seen the phrase on social media and are not sure how it differs from the botox they know at home.

Skin botox in Korea means injecting botulinum toxin in many tiny, shallow points across an area, rather than into one strong muscle. It is used to make skin look smoother and less oily, to soften fine crepey lines and, along the jaw, to give the lower face a cleaner outline. At VOS it appears on our price list as Skin Quality Botox, for the full face, the jawline, or both. This guide is for travelers who want to know what it can and cannot do, and what it costs.

If you want the bigger picture first, such as brands, safety and the classic wrinkle areas, read my guide to Korean botox. Here I stay with the skin version only.

What skin botox is, and how it differs from muscle botox

Regular botulinum toxin treatment targets a muscle. A measured dose goes into the muscle that creates a frown or a square jaw, and that muscle relaxes. The effect is strong and local.

Skin botox uses the same medicine with a different technique. Very small amounts are placed just under the skin surface, in a grid of points spread across the cheeks, lower face or jawline. You may also see it called micro botox or intradermal botox. As general background, at that depth the toxin acts on the skin's oil and sweat glands and on the thinnest muscle fibers that attach to the skin, rather than on deep facial muscles.

That is why the result looks different. Instead of a smooth forehead, people describe calmer, less shiny skin, fewer fine creases and a slightly tighter look along the jaw. It is a skin-quality treatment that happens to use a neuromodulator.

What it can improve, and what it cannot

This is the part I spend the most time on in consultation, because expectations for skin botox are often set by filtered videos.

It may help with:

  • Oily or shiny skin, especially on the forehead, nose and cheeks
  • The look of enlarged pores in oily areas
  • Fine, crepey lines on the cheeks or lower face
  • A softer, less defined jawline caused by thin muscle bands pulling down
  • Skin that flushes or feels reactive in some people

It will not:

  • Lift sagging skin or jowls that have dropped from laxity
  • Fill hollows or restore lost volume
  • Remove pigment, dark spots or acne scars
  • Change pores stretched by aging or old scarring

If enlarged pores are your main concern, skin botox is one tool among several. My guide to Korean pore treatment explains when energy-based treatments do more than an injection can.

Full face or jawline: the two versions on our list

Our price list separates skin botox by area, and the areas answer different concerns.

Full face. The points are spread across the cheeks and other areas where oil, texture or fine lines bother you. People usually choose this for skin quality: shine, pores and a smoother surface.

Jawline. The points follow the jaw and upper neck. As general background, the thin sheet of muscle in the neck can pull the lower face down, and relaxing its upper fibers can make the jaw outline look sharper. This is different from masseter botox, which slims a bulky chewing muscle; my article on masseter botox in Korea explains that treatment. Some faces need one, some the other, and some both.

Both together. When oil and texture bother you as well as a soft jawline, the combined option covers the two areas in one session.

Worth knowing: Skin botox is subtle. Many people see a calmer, smoother surface rather than a dramatic change, and in general the effect of these small shallow doses tends to fade sooner than muscle botox. If you want visible lifting, this is not the treatment for it.

What the appointment feels like

Consultation. I look at your skin in good light: where it shines, where the pores look largest, how the jaw and neck move when you talk and clench. We decide together which option answers your concern.

Mapping. I plan the points before any injection. Skin botox depends on even spacing, so the plan matters as much as the dose.

Injection. The treatment uses very fine needles, and most people describe the pain as mild; the session takes about 10–15 minutes. Because there are many points, you may see small bumps or pinpoint redness right after. These usually settle within hours to a few days. Bruising is possible, and it also clears within days.

Afterwards. For 4 hours, do not lie down or press on the treated area. On the day of treatment, skip intense exercise, saunas and alcohol, and avoid rubbing the points. As with other botulinum toxin treatments, the effect generally begins 2–3 days after treatment and reaches its full level at about 2 weeks. Timing varies from person to person.

For a traveler, that means treating early in your stay if you want to see the settled result before you fly home.

Who should skip it or wait

Skin botox is a gentle treatment, but it is still a medicine. Please talk to me first, or postpone it, if any of these apply:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • You have a muscular or neurological condition
  • You have an active skin infection, flare or open acne in the area
  • You had botulinum toxin elsewhere recently; bring the product, dose and date if you know them
  • You have an important event within the next few days and are worried about small bumps

If what really bothers you is dryness, thin skin or dullness, a regenerative skin booster may suit you better. Rejuran is documented at VOS for thin, sensitive skin and fine lines, and my Rejuran guide explains how it compares.

I prepare the agreed units myself, with fine needles so each skin botox point stays shallow and small.

How I approach skin botox

I start from the problem, not the product. If shine and texture are the concern, I plan the full face. If the jawline looks soft because of muscle bands rather than sagging, I plan the jaw. If it is laxity, I tell you that skin botox is the wrong tool.

I use officially approved products in exact doses, and I tell you the option and unit count before we begin, so the price you see matches the plan. I inject every point myself and keep the doses small and the depth shallow, so your expressions stay yours. More about the areas we treat with botulinum toxin is on our botulinum toxin treatment page.

I also keep an eye on the whole face. Skin botox pairs naturally with treatments for regeneration or tightening, but I only suggest a combination when each part answers a real concern.

Before you message us

The most useful message includes clear photos of your face at rest, in daylight and without makeup, plus one photo while clenching your jaw if the jawline is your concern. Tell us your main goal, whether that is oil, pores, fine lines or jaw definition, along with your travel dates and any recent botox with the brand and dose if you know them.

With that, I can tell you whether skin botox fits and which option makes sense. Results, timing and recovery vary from person to person. Nothing here replaces an in-person consultation with a dermatologist.

Send your photos and questions on WhatsApp, and our team will reply with a clear plan before anything is scheduled.

FAQ

Questions readers ask about skin botox korea

Is skin botox the same as regular botox?
It uses the same kind of medicine, botulinum toxin, but the technique is different. Regular botox goes into a muscle to stop a strong movement, such as a frown. Skin botox places many tiny amounts just under the surface, spread across an area, to work on skin quality and the finest muscle fibers. The goal is smoother, calmer skin rather than frozen lines.
Will skin botox make my face look stiff?
It should not, when it is planned well. The amounts per point are small and placed shallowly, so your main expressions keep working. Some people notice a slightly different feel when they smile widely for the first days. If you have a big event or a video call planned, tell me, and we will time the treatment so the effect has settled.
Can skin botox shrink my pores?
It can make pores look smaller and the skin less shiny in some people, because it tends to reduce oil production for a while. It does not change the structure of a pore or fix pores stretched by aging or scarring. For those, energy-based or regenerative treatments usually do more, and I will say so at consultation.
Can I have skin botox and a skin booster on the same trip?
Often, yes. Skin botox works on oil, fine texture and the jawline, while a skin booster such as Rejuran works on regeneration and hydration. They address different things and can fit into one visit. The order and spacing depend on your skin and schedule, so I plan them together at consultation rather than stacking them automatically.
What should I avoid after skin botox?
For 4 hours, do not lie down or press on the treated area. On the day of treatment, skip intense exercise, saunas and alcohol, and do not rub the injection points. Makeup and normal sightseeing plans are usually fine after that. Small bumps or redness at the points can appear and usually settle within days.
